Youth Council

Real change starts by listening to young people. The voices of children and adolescents is a cornerstone of the work we do in shaping our mental health strategies. We created the Youth Council to be a space where youth from across the five regions of Brazil can help shape mental health strategies that truly reflect their lives and needs. Council members reflect a wide range of identities and lived experiences, offering critical insight into how gender, race, poverty, and systemic exclusion affect youth mental health across the country.

The Youth Council was launched in partnership with the Institute for Health Policy Studies (IEPS) and in collaboration with Young Peacebuilders, a nonprofit that uses mental health tools to reduce school-based violence.

Ana Beatriz Goyanna (Bia)

I currently do scientific initiation at the University of Brasília, where I research the impacts of the pandemic on the mental health of professionals working in the Unified Health System (SUS). I work as a researcher and youth leader in the fields of public health, neuroscience, and educational policies. By combining academic research and social mobilization, I want to make science and mental health more accessible to adolescents throughout Brazil, as well as promote the strengthening of SUS and youth leadership in the debate on public health.

Carlos Ramos de Lima (SC)

I am an Indigenous youth, Law student, and researcher focusing on gender, race, sexuality, and their subjectivities within structures of power. I am an activist dedicated to educational and environmental causes and to the development of public policies on mental health. I believe in the strength of ancestral knowledge and in the importance of building fairer and more inclusive spaces. My dream is to contribute, through knowledge and collective struggle, to a future where all voices are heard and respected.

Daniel Nascimento (RJ)

I work on two fronts: as a counselor on the State Council for the Defense of Children and Adolescents and as a social communicator at Rede Não Bata, Eduque. I began my activism at the Child and Adolescent Psychosocial Care Center (Capsi) Pequenos Hans, where I also connected with other spaces focused on building and guaranteeing the rights of children and adolescents. Today, I want to be a seed of hope that grows and multiplies in other lives, with the belief that love can blossom in the lives of those who have always been abandoned and erased amidst the chaos of the cities. I plan to study economics and political science in the United States.

Denny Oliveira Curini (Den)

I am involved in several projects, extracurricular activities, and volunteer work. I enjoy taking part in competitions and studying languages. I am fascinated by art, by everything that is genuine and comes from the heart. Drawing is my refuge, and reading is my second home. I aspire to study abroad, to create another life outside Brazil, to build my journey through education—taking up spaces and making an impact on places and people I meet along the way—through kindness, from someone who knows what it means to suffer.

João Pedro Santos Schroder (Zitto)

I had a difficult childhood. I lost my father when I was five, grew up with a mother who struggled with depression, and faced racism in Timbó (SC), a predominantly white city. These adversities made me resilient and motivated me to take action. I led the first youth-led project against racism in the city, which resulted in the official creation of Black Consciousness Week, and I became the first Black junior city councilor, advocating for racial equity, youth, and culture. I am also a singer and model, a symbol of representation and resilience.

Júlio Ruan Pablo Dos Santos Ferreira (Ruan)

I am the third of five children, raised surrounded by family and as the only boy at home. I was always drawn to the arts, loving to draw and sing with my sisters. But, raised by a single mother, I never had the opportunity to fully pursue these interests. As a teenager, when I entered the Federal Institute of Brasília (IFB) and reconnected with music, my life perspective changed a lot. Today, I have a band and my greatest dream is to become a musician. I am involved in other forms of art as well, and through them I express my interest in mental health.

Kariny Isadora de Souza Martins (Isa)

I am deeply interested in international politics, geopolitics, issues of vulnerability, and especially in helping people facing problems – whatever they may be. I am very eclectic when it comes to my personal interests, from my favorite sport (muay thai) to my favorite subject at school (geography). I am a big dreamer, and my greatest goal is to study International Relations at NYU, a university in the heart of New York City.

Mariana Rodrigues Chaves (RS)

I have always been passionate about communication, and when I started high school, I began to develop this passion through debate, UN simulations, and, above all, volunteering. I have already developed projects in the areas of youth political participation, health, education, and the environment. I also enjoy running and creating memories with my friends and family. For the future, I hope to be admitted to study in the United States, where I plan to specialize in economics and political science.

Marina Cristina da Silva (Mari or Ma)

I am passionate about education, social projects, and photography. Through my participation in social projects, I strive to dedicate myself to initiatives that seek the common good and help reduce inequalities. Being part of Juntô Jovem is an opportunity to bring together my passions and skills to promote well-being among young people, helping to build a healthier society, with a focus on mental health and mutual support.

Núbia Stephane dos Reis Ribeiro (Bibi or Bia)

I study Business Administration and, in my free time, I enjoy studying, writing, listening to good music, and, of course, drinking lots of coffee. I am passionate about the concept of “evolution,” and that is what I pursue every day: to evolve as a person and achieve my goals. I take part in social projects focused on education and mental health, areas that greatly interest me. Over time, I combined my curiosity about human behavior with my desire to better understand the body’s reactions and the phenomena of the mind. For this reason, my dream is to become a neuropsychologist in the future.

Rhenan Cauê Barbosa Batista (TO)

I have been involved in environmental causes since the age of 13 and led the revitalization of the Brejinho stream in my hometown, Araguatins (TO). I was recognized as a Young Changemaker by Ashoka, represented Brazil at international events, and was featured in the Inspiration segment of Luciano Huck’s TV show on Globo. Currently, I am studying Dentistry and serve as an ambassador for initiatives such as Primavera X, strengthening youth leadership in Tocantins and the whole Northern Brazil.

Simon Cantionilia Santos Reis da Silva

I am a high school student, and active in youth participation, climate justice, education, and public policies. I represent Brazil at the G20 Social Summit, work as a writing intern at UNICEF, and serve as an ambassador for Mapa Educação, a program of the Ministry of Education. I also lead youth forums and organize Cojuv, one of the largest youth congresses in Latin America. I enjoy writing, studying diplomacy, and creating content about issues that matter. I dream of building public policies with and for youth, bringing the voice of my generation into decision-making spaces.
